Cliff Dougherty has practiced exclusively in the intellectual property field for his entire career. His practice encompasses all aspects of intellectual property law, including trademark clearance, registration and maintenance, patent application preparation and prosecution, preparation of legal opinions, drafting and negotiating contracts relating to intellectual property, and counseling with respect to advertising, copyright, Internet, licensing and related matters. Cliff also devotes a large part of his practice to intellectual property litigation (in federal courts as well as before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office).
Cliff serves as exclusive intellectual property counsel for numerous companies throughout the United States ranging from large public corporations to private start-up companies. He has helped companies of all sizes develop and implement programs to promote and foster development of new intellectual property, protect and maintain existing intellectual property, and avoid intellectual property infringement litigation. Cliff’s practice is worldwide in scope. He has developed a vast network of intellectual property associates and handled transactions and disputes in most countries throughout the world.
Cliff's achievements have earned him inclusion in Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The Best Lawyers in America (intellectual property litigation, patent litigation, patent law, trademark law) and Oklahoma Super Lawyers (intellectual property, intellectual property litigation, business/corporate). Cliff has published articles relating to intellectual property law in the Oklahoma Law Review, Oklahoma Bar Journal, The Journal Record, The Oklahoman and the Oklahoma Employment Law Letter, and is a contributing author to State Trademark and Unfair Competition Law (INTA). He frequently speaks at seminars and other educational programs on intellectual property matters. He is a past president of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Oklahoma Bar Association and has previously served as leader of McAfee & Taft's Intellectual Property Group.
