BIOGRAPHY

Vani Singhal is a trial lawyer whose practice is focused on mass torts litigation, product liability defense, healthcare-related litigation, multidistrict litigation, class actions and other complex litigation in state and federal courts. 

Vani’s extensive work in mass torts litigation, specifically in the areas of asbestos and medical device and pharmaceutical litigation, include developing defense strategy; developing and presenting corporate representatives and physicians for deposition; taking depositions of medical experts, plaintiffs and fact witnesses; drafting dispositive motions; and negotiating voluntary dismissals and favorable settlements. Her clients have included numerous manufacturers and distributors of commercial and consumer products, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare organizations and providers, physicians and dentists, and manufacturers and distributors of medical devices, including prosthetics and cardiac and respiratory devices.

She has also handled automotive products liability matters in cases involving child restraint issues.

Vani is a 2005 graduate of the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Trial Academy and has authored numerous articles in the area of products liability, including several for the Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Law Bulletin. She also previously chaired the Diversity Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section and served on the Judicial Nominating committee for the City of Tulsa Municipal Court. 

Active in the Tulsa community, Vani volunteers for her daughters’ school as well as Tulsa Lawyers for Children, Girl Scouts, Women Impacting Tulsa and Tulsa Children's Museum. 

Her achievements have earned her inclusion in Oklahoma Super Lawyers' list of "Oklahoma Rising Stars," which recognizes the state’s top up-and-coming attorneys. In 2009, she was selected for Oklahoma Magazine's “40 Under 40” honor.

Prior to joining McAfee & Taft, Vani worked as a trial lawyer at two other Oklahoma-based law firms and the Chicago law office of Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney.


REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Represented medical device manufacturers, including cardiac, orthopedic and respiratory device manufacturers, in product liability actions in state and federal courts. Successful with dispositive motions, mediation and nominal settlements.
  • Served on national counsel team representing physicians across the country in national Fen-Phen diet drug litigation resulting in voluntary dismissals and nominal settlements.
  • Represented corporate clients sued in asbestos litigation in multiple jurisdictions resulting in voluntary dismissals and nominal settlements.
  • Served as local counsel in class action for manufacturer of a fiber used in bullet-resistant vests resulting in national settlement.
  • Representation of dentists sued for malpractice, which included an active motion practice resulting in numerous summary judgments, dismissals and the exclusion of expert witnesses.
  • Successfully represented hospital and physicians in internal hospital peer review hearings.
  • Successfully represented gas company in proceedings to prevent inspection of multi-million dollar natural gas well.
  • Represented power and gas line companies in eminent domain actions from inception to trial, including preparation of expert real estate appraiser witnesses for deposition and trial.
  • Obtained defense verdict for a prosthetic manufacturer in small claims trial.
