Biography
Brandon Long practices in the area of employee benefits law. Much of his practice is focused on representing employers in matters pertaining to qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, executive compensation plans, health and welfare plans, COBRA and deferred compensation.
A portion of his practice has also been devoted to business litigation and appellate work. One of Brandon’s representative cases is GEICO General Insurance Co. v. Edo, 127 S. Ct. 2201 (2007). Brandon authored the Petition for a Writ of Certiorari that was granted by the United States Supreme Court, and he served as co-briefing counsel in the Supreme Court, which issued an opinion in his client’s favor.
Brandon worked for 10 years for another Oklahoma City-based law firm where he started in the mail room, worked for years as a legal assistant, and then ultimately as an attorney. Prior to returning to his hometown and joining McAfee & Taft, Brandon worked for several years as an associate in the Dallas office of the international law firm Baker & McKenzie LLP.
While in law school, Brandon was the recipient of numerous honors, including the Oklahoma Bar Association's Outstanding Graduate Award, OCU's Outstanding Academic Performance Award, Berry-Opala Outstanding Graduate Award, West Group Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement, Judge Tom Brett Award, and nine CALI Awards. He was also a Merit Scholar and Lloyd Henry Scholar, served as articles editor of Law Review, and was named to Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Phi, and Honor Roll. He graduated ranked first in his law school class.
Brandon is an adjunct professor at several colleges. His writing credits include "Attorney-Client Privilege and Deposition Preparation of Former Employees," 57 FDCC Quarterly 303 (2007) and "Supreme Court Ruling on the Fair Credit Reporting Act and Auto Insurers' Use of Insurance Scores to Set Premiums," Defense Counsel Journal (April 2008).
