Biography

Mindy Blackman represents and advises clients on a wide spectrum of aviation matters, including the documentation of aircraft transactions and aircraft title and registration matters. 

Her practice involves the review of FAA records for aircraft, engines and propellers, and advising clients regarding title issues as well as liens and encumbrances of record at the FAA.  Mindy also reviews security agreements, leases, bills of sale and other documents to ensure compliance with FAA regulations and procedures.

Prior to joining McAfee & Taft in 2004, Mindy served as interim assistant general counsel for the Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges.  She began her legal career in 2000 as a securities litigation associate with Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco.

Prior to graduating from Vanderbilt University, Mindy studied one year abroad at the University of Leeds in Leeds, England.

While in law school, Mindy earned academic achievement awards in Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law Seminar, Contracts, Criminal Procedure, Environmental Law, Legal Writing, and Public International Law.  She also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Lee R. West, U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of Oklahoma; worked as a teaching assistant for Legal Writing and Appellate Advocacy; and completed summer associate programs with the law firms of McAfee & Taft, Morrison & Foerster and the Dallas office Fulbright & Jaworski.

Mindy is the author of “United States v. Balsys: Setting a Boundary for the Self-Incrimination Clause,” 53 Oklahoma Law Review 127 (2000).

Representative Experience

  • Review FAA records for aircraft, engines and propellers and advise clients regarding the status of title, liens and encumbrances of record with the FAA.
  • Advise lenders, leasing corporations and individual aircraft owners on aircraft registration matters to ensure compliance with FAA rules and regulations.
  • Assist lenders and leasing corporations with the filing and recordation of security interests and leasehold interests at the FAA.
