IN MEMORIAM: Sally Mock (1943-2009) |
Sally Mock, a long-time shareholder with McAfee & Taft, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2009. She will be greatly missed.
Sally was an accomplished transactional attorney with extensive experience and expertise in real estate, lending transactions and banking law. Her specific work in the areas of real estate and financial institutions law earned her inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in both categories, and in February 2009 she was named “Oklahoma City Best Lawyers Banking Lawyer of the Year.”
Sally earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in natural sciences from the University of Oklahoma before going on to graduate first in her class at the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1973. Her academic honors included membership in Phi Beta Kappa, Mortar Board, Order of the Coif, Phi Delta Phi, and the Board of Editors of the Oklahoma Law Review.
Upon graduation from law school, Sally served as a law clerk to Judge William J. Holloway of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. She also practiced at two Oklahoma City-based law firms before joining McAfee & Taft in 1988.
Sally was a member of the Oklahoma County, Oklahoma and American bar associations and served as the first female member and as chairperson of the Oklahoma Board of Bar Examiners. She was a strong advocate for women's rights, which she demonstrated by serving as a board member of Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma, where she was recognized as volunteer of the year in 2007. She was also a co-founder of the Oklahoma Committee to Promote Women's Health, a political action committee.
