Engineers play a central role in society's ability to adapt to climate change. Engineers are currently retrofitting, redesigning and resiting infrastructure, industrial plants, discrete mechanical and chemical processes, commercial buildings and residential construction to conserve energy, water and other resources, and withstand rising sea levels, flooding, fires and more severe weather. This presentation discusses the policy developments and direction currently being adopted by the U.S., states and municipalities around the U.S. that are driving adaptation work for engineers and resulting future implications.
