The Journal Record
featured a story about attorneys from Devon Energy and McAfee & Taft teaming up with Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma to provide pro bono legal help to needy Oklahomans.
The idea started with a conversation between the general counsels of the Williams Cos. and Devon Energy, the story reported. The Williams Cos. have a similar arrangement with the Tulsa law firm Hall Estill. One of Devon's attorneys mentioned the opportunity to one of McAfee & Taft's attorneys and the pro bono project partnership was born.
"We've got a long track record of working together," McAfee & Taft attorney Jim Webb told The Journal Record. The firm has served as Devon's outside law firm for many years.
Webb said that about a dozen lawyers each from Devon and McAfee & Taft have committed to the program so far.
