Eminent Domain Topic of Legal Seminar

Oklahoma City, OK - July 12, 2006

Shareholders Joseph H. Bocock and Jeff L. Todd will be featured speakers at the National Business Institute’s upcoming “Eminent Domain: Legal Update” seminar scheduled for July 18th at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites in Oklahoma City.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2005 ruling in Kelo v. City of New London changed the landscape of eminent domain, giving the government unprecedented legal power to take property and leaving many property owners outraged.  This one-day seminar is designed to assist attorneys, local government officials, engineers and architects, and real estate professionals and developers in assessing the impact of new and pending case law and legislative changes on eminent domain actions.

Bocock and Todd concentrate their legal practices on commercial litigation and arbitration and have experience representing landowners in condemnation and eminent domain matters.  Todd will lead off the seminar with a discussion on the landmark Supreme Court ruling, recent developments in Oklahoma law, and federal, state and local rules and regulations.  Bocock will be presenting strategies for effectively settling eminent domain actions on behalf of the landowner.  Both will be participating in a panel discussion on the debate between government rights and property owner rights to wrap up the all-day event.

Other topics covered during the seminar include “Key Eminent Domain Concepts” and “Understanding Just Compensation.”

Interested conference participants may register online at www.nbi-sems.com.  The seminar has been pre-approved for continuing education credit by the Oklahoma Bar Association, Oklahoma Real Estate Commission and American Institute of Architects.
