Jill Collins and Kelly Ferguson have joined McAfee & Taft, the state’s largest law firm, as paralegal support for the firm’s recently expanded Subrogation and Strategic Recovery Services practice. The group of lawyers and paralegals is responsible for enforcing the rights of employers, third party administrators (TPAs), stop loss carriers, HMOs and self-insured plans who seek reimbursement of paid medical claims, as well as claims which have been overpaid as a result of waste, fraud or abuse.

Jill Collins serves as the supervising paralegal for the practice, which is dedicated to helping clients recover insurance claims paid primarily as a result of third-party liability. Her responsibilities include identifying potential third-party accident claims, analyzing accident information as well as medical and pharmaceutical claims data, initiating contact with the responsible parties’ attorneys and insurance companies, monitoring settlement negotiations, and tracking, crediting and reporting all recovered funds.

Jill earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas and previously worked in the commercial real estate industry in Houston, TX, before relocating to Oklahoma.

Active in the Oklahoma City community, Jill has served in both volunteer and leadership positions for such organizations as Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma, Project READ, Delta Gamma, and Kappa Alpha Theta Mom’s Club.

Kelly Ferguson serves as a paralegal and claims analyst for the practice. Her primary duties involve indentifying possible recovery opportunities by carefully analyzing initial accident information, police reports and medical and pharmaceutical claims data and then initiating further research to determine whether a subrogatable claim exists and recovery should be pursued on behalf of the client. In this role, she works closely with the firm’s employee benefits/ERISA attorneys and trial lawyers.

Prior to graduating cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Texas Christian University, Kelly served as news director and executive producer for TCU News Now. Following graduation, she worked as an account executive for a Dallas-based marketing firm for two years before returning to Oklahoma and joining McAfee & Taft in 2010.
