Kathy Taylor returning to law practice

The Journal Record - September 2, 2010

Former Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor will be joining McAfee & Taft in mid-November, The Journal Record reported. Taylor and the firm's managing director, Richard Nix, both confirmed the move when contacted by the newspaper, even though no official announcement had yet been released.

Taylor was elected as Tulsa's mayor in 2006, defeating one-term Republican Mayor Bill LaFortune with the highest turnout for any mayoral election in the city, the Journal Record article stated.

At the end of her term as mayor, she was appointed to Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry's administration as chief of education strategy and innovation. Before resigning in 2006 to run for mayor in her hometown, she previously served in Henry's administration as Oklahoma secretary for commerce and tourism, tasked with heading three executive state agencies and acting as the governor’s small business advocate for the state.

“As secretary of commerce, mayor and now chief of education strategy, we have been impressed with her ability and passion,” Nix told The Journal Record. “We knew she would make a great addition to the firm.”
