McAfee & Taft Names Baker, Haines, and Sonne New Associates

Oklahoma City, OK - September 12, 2004

The law firm of McAfee & Taft has announced that Abbey Baker, Spencer Haines, and Blake Sonne, all recent honors graduates from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, have joined the firm as associates. 

Abbey J. Baker, who practices in the area of litigation, graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in letters from the University of Oklahoma in 2000.  She later went on to graduate with highest honors from the university’s College of Law in 2004. 

While in law school, she served as assistant editor of the Oklahoma Law Review, was named to the Order of the Coif, and completed a semester internship with the Department of Justice.  She was also the recipient of the Comfort Scholarship and the McKinney & Stringer Scholarship.

The Enid, OK, native is also active in the Enid chapter of PEO, a civic organization dedicated to promoting and providing educational opportunities for women.
 
Spencer W. Haines practices in the areas of taxation and corporate and securities law. 

The Edmond, OK, native graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University in 1998 and worked as a CPA and senior accountant with Arthur Anderson for three years before attending law school.  He went on to graduate with highest honors from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2004, earning the Nathan Scarritt Prize for achieving the highest academic standing in his class.  While in law school, Haines was named to the Order of the Coif and served as assistant editor of the Oklahoma Law Review.  In addition, he earned 10 American Jurisprudence Awards and was the recipient of the Comfort Scholarship, John McHenry Mee Scholarship, S. T. Bledsoe Memorial Prize, Robert B. Looper Memorial Scholarship, and the College of Law Association Scholarship.  

W. Blake Sonne, Jr. joins McAfee & Taft as an associate practicing in the areas of labor and employment law and litigation.

Sonne graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in business management from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 2001.  While pursuing his undergraduate degree, he was named a Verizon Academic All-American in basketball while serving as the team’s captain.

Sonne recently graduated with highest honors from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he was named to the Order of the Coif and was a member of the Whittier Juvenile Law Moot Court Team.  In addition, he was a Comfort Scholarship recipient and earned three American Jurisprudence Awards.
