The Associated Press reported that U.S. District Judge Tim Leonard has awarded an additional $10.3 million in punitive damages and attorneys fees to Dr. Jan Voda, an Oklahoma City cardiologist and inventor of a guiding heart catheter, in a patent infringement case.
Earlier this year, a federal jury ruled that Cordis Corp., a Florida-based medical device manufacturer and subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson, willfully infringed on Dr. Voda's patent and awarded him a 7.5% royalty, a judgment estimated to be worth $10 million over the life of the patents.
McAfee & Taft shareholder John Kenney served as lead counsel for Dr. Voda throughout the proceedings.
