Seven new associates join McAfee & Taft

McAfee & Taft, the state’s largest law firm, has announced that recent law school graduates Jared M. Burden, Brian A. Burget, John R. Chubbuck, Sasha Legere, Jared W. Mashaney, Terra Lord Parten and Emily D. Wilson have joined the firm as associates. The addition of the seven new attorneys brings the firm’s lawyer count to 163.  

Jared Burden is a trial lawyer whose practice focuses on commercial litigation, including complex business litigation, and the counseling and defense of employers in labor and employment disputes. He graduated with highest honors from the University of Tulsa College of Law, where he was named to the Order of the Curule Chair and served as editor-in-chief of the Tulsa Law Review. The Midland, Texas, native also holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Classics from Texas Tech University.

Brian Burget is a trial lawyer whose practice encompasses a broad range of business and commercial litigation, including construction litigation, personal injury and products liability defense, and Native American relations. He also counsels employers on labor and employment issues and defends clients in disputes arising from employer-employee relationships. Burget received both his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Oklahoma and served as business development editor for the American Indian Law Review while in law school. 

John Chubbuck is a transactional attorney in the firm’s aviation practice group, which is one of the largest of its kind in the United States. His practice concentrates on matters relating to the financing, purchase, sale, leasing and registration of aircraft worldwide. Chubbuck is a certified pilot and flight instructor who holds a bachelor’s degree in aviation management and a Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma. Prior to attending law school, he served as an assistant chief flight instructor for a private flight school where he coordinated the school’s Federal Aviation Regulations Part 141 training program and oversaw regulatory compliance with respect to the school’s operations.

Sasha Legere is a registered patent attorney whose practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property law, including trademarks, copyrights, patents, licensing, software and computer law, internet law, unfair competition and trade secrets. In addition to her Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, she graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Oklahoma State University. As a law student, Legere interned with the University of Oklahoma Office of Technology Development where she assisted external patent counsel during patent prosecution and researched intellectual property issues affecting the Office of Technology Development.

Jared Mashaney is a corporate lawyer whose practice encompasses a broad range of business matters, including commercial transactions, business law, real estate and healthcare regulatory and transactional matters. He graduated with highest honors from the University of Tulsa College of law, where he was named to the Order of the Curule Chair and served as editor of the Tulsa Law Review. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in political science-legal studies from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Terra Lord Parten is a transactional attorney whose practice encompasses the areas of commercial transactions, corporate and securities, real estate and healthcare law. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and Spanish from the University of Kansas and graduated with highest honors from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where she served as note editor of the Oklahoma Law Review. In the community, Parten serves as a volunteer for The #14 Foundation Children’s Charity.

Emily Wilson is a corporate lawyer whose practice is concentrated in the areas of family wealth planning and general business transactions. She represents both individuals and businesses in a variety of estate planning, probate, corporate and tax matters. Wilson graduated summa cum laude with a B.B.A. in finance and a B.A. in advertising from Southern Methodist University and with high honors from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. While pursuing her Juris Doctor, she served on the OU Law Board of Advocates and as assistant managing editor of the Oklahoma Law Review and was a recipient of the University of Oklahoma Pro Bono Certificate for her involvement in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
