McAfee & Taft attorney and former Tulsa mayor Kathy Taylor was the featured subject of a cover story in Urban Tulsa Weekly highlighting her life out of politics.
"For 10 years when I was at (the state Department of) Commerce and as mayor, my schedule was so long - and it was seven days a week. Now it feels very much like I have a very leisurely life," Taylor said. Since leaving public office and joining McAfee & Taft, she has been inducted into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame and is serving as co-chair of Legal Aid's annual statewide fundraising campaign with former Lt. Governor Jari Askins. In additon to her legal practice, Taylor also mentors sixth graders at Clinton Middle School through a program called the College Access-Career Readiness Program and is working with the University of Tulsa to help better prepare future educators to work in urban schools.
Taylor told Urban Tulsa Weekly that she does miss being a mayor, but would not do it again. "Now, I love practicing law. I've done it for a long time. It's very easy for me. There are some days life is so easy I just laugh in my office - what a great life," said Taylor.
