| The Journal Record - June 22, 2007 |
Intellectual property attorney Chad McLawhorn was interviewed by Journal Record reporter Marie Price for an article on the legal protections afforded websites and blogs by evolving Internet law. Key to the discussion is the question of whether people such as bloggers can be considered journalists and therefore enjoy similar First Amendment protection given to the press.
On a related subject, McLawhorn was quoted as saying that Section 230 of the federal Communications Decency Act currently shields Internet service providers and websites from liability for content provided by third parties. However, "If they got on their own blog and made some comments, obviously that's not going to be a shield for them."
