Alexis Barnes, Jen Mook honored as Board Serve of Central Oklahoma graduates

McAfee & Taft attorneys Alexis Barnes and Jen Mook were recently honored as members of the seventh class of graduates from Board Serve Central Oklahoma. The graduation ceremony was held on Tuesday, September 12th, at the Quail Creek Golf and Country Club in Oklahoma City, OK.
A unique program of the United Way of Central Oklahoma, Board Serve was developed as a way to strengthen nonprofit boards by recruiting, training, and matching board members with nonprofit agencies in the central Oklahoma area. Over the course of eight months, class members attend expert-led sessions in nonprofit governance, leadership, nonprofit law, fundraising, and other skills needed to serve on a nonprofit board. Following training, each graduate is matched with one of the United Way’s partner agencies as a board member.
Alexis Barnes will serve on the board of directors for Neighborhood Services Organization, a 100-year-old nonprofit serving the at-risk and homeless of the Oklahoma City community. NSO provides housing solutions, as well as a WIC clinic and low-cost dental clinic.
Jen Mook will now serve on the boards of Skyline Urban Ministry and RSVP Central Oklahoma. Founded in 1968 in Oklahoma City, Skyline works with area churches and partner agencies to serve at-risk children, youth and adults by bridging the gaps in their resources with kindness and respect. The organization’s offerings include a food resource center, eye clinic, style shop, and gardening program. Through its volunteer recruitment and placement program, RSVP Central Oklahoma matches the skills, talents and experience of older adults with volunteer opportunities at nonprofit agencies throughout Central Oklahoma.
