Merideth Herald, 2016-17 chair of the OCBA Young Lawyers Division, with Liberty Bell Award recipient Barbara Lasater.

McAfee & Taft legal secretary Barbara Lasater was honored with the Oklahoma County Bar Association Young Lawyer Division’s Liberty Bell Award at the OCBA’s annual Law Day Luncheon held at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel on Monday, May 1, 2017. Each year, the award is presented to a non-lawyer who has given his or her time to assist the legal community in Oklahoma County. Barbara was recognized for her many years of contributions to the Ask A Lawyer program, an all-day event in which Oklahomans with legal questions may call a toll-free number and speak to an attorney at no charge.

“The annual Ask A Lawyer call-in program is a greatly anticipated and appreciated community service, and pulling it all together requires a lot of coordination and assistance,” said Curtis Thomas, past president of the OCBA’s Young Lawyers Division. “While members of the Young Lawyers Division are responsible for researching and updating the content for the guide book that is used by volunteer attorneys to assist callers seeking free legal advice, Barbara is the one who compiles and formats all the information in a fashion that is useful for the attorneys. This is the fourth year that Barbara has taken on this responsibility without hesitation, and she’s very deserving of the award.”
