Brett Merritt is a corporate lawyer who leverages his broad-based business and counseling experience as a lawyer in private practice and private industry to represent clients in a broad range of commercial and business matters, including real estate, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, corporate financing, corporate governance, securities, business formation, and partnerships.
As part of his real estate practice, Brett represents clients in matters related to the sale of unimproved and improved real property, including the negotiation and documentation of purchase and sale agreements, title and survey due diligence, regulatory compliance, and land use issues. He also represents landlords and tenants in all aspects of commercial leasing transactions.
Brett is the co-author of Oklahoma Limited Liability Company: Forms and Practice Manual, a two-volume practice manual containing forms and explanatory text and analysis for lawyers, accountants, tax specialists, estate planners, and real estate professionals.
Brett’s achievements have earned him inclusion in Oklahoma Super Lawyers’ list of “Oklahoma Rising Stars,” which recognizes the state’s top up-and-coming attorneys.
Brett’s prior career experience includes serving as the chief counsel responsible for acquisitions and growth for a large multi-site megachurch, as general counsel and chief compliance officer for an Oklahoma-based investment company focused on acquiring and developing institutional-quality real estate across the United States, and as general counsel and chief compliance officer for an SEC-registered investment advisor managing funds invested globally in natural resources and real estate.
