Chris Contreras is a corporate attorney who represents and counsels clients of all sizes on a broad range of business and transactional matters, including business entity formation, contract drafting and review, corporate governance and compliance issues, stock and asset mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, commercial leasing and real estate management, and construction law.
As a member of the firm’s Energy and Natural Resources Group, Chris leverages his prior career experience in the private sector to assist clients operating in the oil and gas and renewable energy industries with a myriad of transactional, risk management, and operational issues. His industry practice includes drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, vendor contracts, supply and distribution agreements, real estate leases, and financing arrangements.
Before entering the legal profession, Chris built a career in the energy and defense sectors. For three years, he served as a crude oil scheduler for a major energy company, overseeing hauling operations across major U.S. production zones while implementing process improvements and advising senior leadership on market expansion opportunities. In addition to that, Chris spent six years as a logistics specialist with the U.S. Department of Defense, where he managed multimillion-dollar system acquisition and repair budgets, negotiated and enforced complex contracts, and led integrated project teams on high-value procurement initiatives. This prior experience equips Chris with a deep understanding of the operational and regulatory challenges faced by corporate clients.
Chris is a 2025 honors graduate from the Oklahoma City University School of Law, where he served as a staff editor of the Oklahoma City University Law Review and competed against other law schools as a member of the national moot court team. He also valued his work with the Native American Indian Wills Clinic, where he provided estate planning assistance to members of the Native American community. His law school achievements include multiple dean’s list and faculty honor roll recognitions and active involvement in organizations such as the Energy Law Club, Black Law Students Association, William J. Holloway American Inn of Court, SBA Constitution Committee, and service as a 1L student advisor.
Chris earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing with a minor in management from Oklahoma State University in 2013 and his M.B.A. from Oklahoma Christian University in 2018.
Outside of work, the Oklahoma City native enjoys spending time with his wife and young daughter and is an avid cyclist and Oklahoma City Thunder and Oklahoma State Cowboys fan.
