Jessica D. Coats

Paralegal

As a paralegal with the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources Group, Jessica Coats provides comprehensive support for trial lawyers whose practices are concentrated on resolving complex business disputes, including class actions, for clients engaged in the energy industry. Her responsibilities include case management, document review and management, conducting legal and factual research, coordinating and responding to discovery requests, scheduling and summarizing depositions, preparing and filing pleadings and other documents, docketing, serving as a liaison with clients and witnesses, preparing and organizing documents and exhibits for trial, and assisting attorneys at trial.

Jessica joined McAfee & Taft in 2022, bringing with her more than 14 years of valuable experience in both the legal and energy industries, including as a paralegal for a full-service litigation firm, a land technician for both a publicly traded independent oil and natural gas company and a professional land services firm, a data quality specialist for a privately owned Oklahoma-based natural gas and oil company, and office manager for a privately funded exploration and production company.

Jessica holds a bachelor’s degree in general studies with a minor in criminal justice from the University of Central Oklahoma and is a member of the Central Oklahoma Association of Legal Assistants (COALA) and the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA).

Prior to joining McAfee & Taft, Jessica served as a legal assistant at two Oklahoma City law firms, one specializing in criminal defense and the other specializing in medical malpractice and personal injury.
