As a member of McAfee & Taft’s Aviation Group, J.D. Brown represents clients in transactional matters involving the buying, selling, leasing, financing and registration of aircraft. His practice is primarily focused on aircraft matters that fall under the purview of the Federal Transportation Code, Federal Aviation Administration Regulations, FAA Aircraft Registry, and the Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and the Aircraft Protocol. His practice regularly involves reviewing FAA records for aircraft, engines and propellers and advising local, national and international clients regarding title issues and liens and encumbrances of record at the FAA. He also reviews security agreements, leases, bills of sale and other documents to ensure compliance with FAA regulations and procedures.
J.D. also works with aircraft owners, lenders, lessors and lessees to protect their interests internationally by registering their interests in aircraft assets with the International Registry in Ireland.
While pursuing his Juris Doctor, J.D. was selected as the first representative of the OU College of Law to serve as legal extern for the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. While assigned to the State Department’s Office of the Assistant Legal Adviser for International Claims and Investment Disputes, J.D. conducted research and drafted substantive memoranda regarding international arbitration between the U.S. and other sovereigns, international law, and U.S. foreign policy.Download Bio (PDF)
