Director of Human Resources and Recruiting

Karen Megert, MHR, PHR is a human resources professional with a passion for both people and technology.

As the firm’s Director of Human Resources and Recruiting, she is able to combine the two as part of her role in ensuring workplace compliance with state and federal employment laws, overseeing and directing the firm’s employee staffing and development needs, promoting employee engagement and satisfaction, and overseeing the administration of the firm’s employee benefits programs. She is also responsible for strategic and succession planning as well as working with McAfee & Taft’s Associate Committee to recruit summer law clerks and new associates to the firm. 

Prior to joining McAfee & Taft in 2021, Karen worked for a large publicly held independent oil and gas company. Over the course of nearly 11 years, she managed multiple teams of employees and gained valuable experience in numerous facets of human resources and employee benefits administration, including employment law and ERISA compliance, risk management, hiring and training on a large scale, payroll and data management, vendor management, analysis and improvement of business processes, implementation of cost-saving measures, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.

Karen holds both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in human relations from the University of Oklahoma and is currently pursuing her MBA and Graduate Certificate in Digital Technologies. She is a certified Professional of Human Resources (PHR) through the HR Certification Institute and a Birkman Certified Professional through Birkman International, an industry-leading behavioral and occupational assessment company. Additionally, she has completed the Rice Advanced Management Program and several other leadership programs.
