Chief Information Officer

In addition to providing for the information and technology needs of the firm’s three offices and nearly 350 employees, Rick Thompson and his team are responsible for continuously analyzing, integrating and deploying the firm’s vast technological resources in such a way that ensures maximum operational efficiency, speed and responsiveness.
Rick joined McAfee & Taft in 2019, bringing with him more nearly 30 years of experience in the field of information technology, with more than 20 of those years spent overseeing the extensive IT, knowledge management, and practice support needs of law firms in Minneapolis, Denver and Milwaukee. The Wisconsin native’s prior career experience also includes owning and operating his own computer networking and consulting business, serving as the director of professional services for an Illinois-based IT service management consulting firm, and serving as an instructor of computer science at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Rick holds a bachelor’s degree in business and computer science from Milwaukee School of Engineering and is ITIL certified. He is also a member of the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) and InfraGard and has been a featured speaker at regional and national conferences on the topics of cyber security and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
