McAfee & Taft was founded in 1952 by Kenneth McAfee and Richard Taft, whose legal expertise was in taxation and entrepreneurial business transactions. Since then, McAfee & Taft has evolved into Oklahoma’s largest law firm. Our lawyers have wide-ranging expertise and service clients throughout the United States and around the world. Mr. McAfee and Mr. Taft were, however, more than just top-flight lawyers; they were friends and mentors to those of us entrusted with continuing their tradition of excellence.

Summer Associates

At McAfee & Taft, we are committed to fostering the growth and development of the next generation of legal professionals.  Each summer, we extend an invitation to a select group of 1L and 2L law students to join us for a 10-week summer associate program.  This immersive experience offers a comprehensive preview of our firm’s practice areas, culture, and the opportunities that await as an associate attorney.  We recognize that choosing the right career path is a significant decision, one that requires careful consideration and informed judgment.  Our summer associate program is designed to provide you with valuable insights and experiences that will aid you in making an informed decision about your future legal career.

During your time with us, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our accomplished attorneys, gaining hands-on exposure to various practice areas and legal matters.  Each summer associate is paired with two mentors, an associate and shareholder, who are a resource to maximize opportunities for meaningful legal work and practical experiences and help our summer associates navigate their time at the firm.  More specifically, our summer associates participate in strategy discussions, draft documents, research complex issues, and attend depositions, hearings, and client meetings. Through this practical experience, you will develop a deeper understanding of our firm’s approach to legal practice, our commitment to excellence, and our dedication to client service.

Beyond the legal work, our program offers a glimpse into the vibrant culture that defines our firm.  You will have the chance to interact with our partners, associates, and support staff, fostering meaningful connections and gaining insights into the collaborative and supportive environment that underpins our success.  Additionally, our program includes professional development opportunities and social events with our attorneys and their families, allowing you to explore the firm’s values and the rewarding experiences that await as an associate.
