Congratulations, Ginger Schones! 2024 Employee of the Year

Ginger Schones, Employee of the Year 2024

McAfee & Taft proudly congratulates veteran paralegal Ginger Schones, a 21-year employee of the firm, for being named the recipient of the 2024 Betty Northcutt Employee of the Year Award. The presentation was made by Matt Bown, the firm’s chief operating officer, at an all-employee meeting on June 26, 2024.

“Ginger is an amazing paralegal, staff member, and person,” said Bown. “She is beyond deserving of this recognition. Her dedication to her clients and lawyers is evident in all aspects of her work, and her ability to serve as a mentor and advisor to her peers is consistently recognized by all. Ginger is smart, thoughtful, and extremely giving of her time. We are extremely fortunate to have Ginger on our team and are thrilled to have this opportunity to recognize her excellence as our 2024 Employee of the Year!”

Since joining the firm in 2003, Ginger has provided legal support to trial lawyers engaged in the resolution of complex civil litigation disputes in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and arbitrations and mediations across the nation. Earlier this year, she was promoted to the newly created position of litigation paralegal manager in the firm’s Oklahoma City office. In this additional role, she is responsible for overseeing legal support assignments and balancing workloads, collaborating in the development of improved processes and procedures, and training and developing the firm’s significant depth of paralegal talent.

In nominating Ginger for this honor, her colleagues unanimously praised her for her knowledge and expertise, positive attitude and generous spirit, and willingness to always assist others and provide helpful advice.

“I’ve worked with Ginger for some time now,” said paralegal clerk Renea Belcher. “Regardless of how busy she is, she is always willing to offer assistance and answer any questions I may have. She is, without a doubt, the best!”

Fellow litigation paralegal Jessica DeLoera echoed those sentiments, saying, “Ginger has shown fantastic leadership. She is always willing to help and thoroughly explain things even though she is very busy herself. She always has a great attitude and is so nice to everyone. She is someone I highly respect and hope to become in my career.”

Ginger’s reputation for always making herself available to help others extends far throughout the firm.

“Ginger is amazing,” said trial lawyer Katelyn King. “She literally goes to trial with every litigator in Oklahoma County, even when she was not the paralegal on the matter. She also provides training to new hires and provides great advice to young attorneys. She is always willing to answer a question, no matter how busy she is.”

The Betty Northcutt Employee of the Year Award — affectionately called “The Betty” — was created and named in honor of Betty Northcutt (1929–2020), one of Oklahoma’s first female certified public accountants and a long-time employee of McAfee & Taft. Betty began her career working with pioneering lawyer Kenneth McAfee prior to the firm’s founding in 1952 and was an active and loyal member of the firm for more than six decades. This award honors those who, like Betty, have made a significant impact on the firm’s success through their talent, expertise, initiative, dedication, loyalty, and respect for others.
