Corporate attorney Richard Johnson joins firm

McAfee & Taft, the state’s largest law firm, has announced that corporate attorney Richard D. Johnson has joined the firm.

Johnson’s practice is focused on business and commercial transactions, including oil and gas law, mergers and acquisitions, real estate law and ad valorem matters, contract drafting and negotiations, corporate and securities, and business entity selection and formation. As part of his oil and gas practice, he represents exploration, production and midstream energy companies in a broad range of matters, including asset sales and acquisitions, lease negotiations, title opinion review and drafting, and the preparation of joint operating agreements, marketing agreements, equipment leases and other contracts.

A licensed certified public accountant, Johnson previously worked as state and local tax accountant for one of the nation’s largest oil and gas companies and as a private practice lawyer focused on estate planning, probate and oil and gas law. While pursuing his graduate degrees, he also gained valuable hands-on tax, legal and oil and gas experience working for a national marketer of petroleum products and a diversified oilfield service company.

Johnson a three-time graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he earned his Juris Doctor, MBA and bachelor of accountancy degrees.
