Emily Xiao named to Lawyers of Color’s 2022 Hot List

December 28, 2022

McAfee & Taft transactional attorney Emily Z. Xiao has been selected for inclusion in the recently released Lawyers of Color’s 2022 Hot List. The annual publication recognizes junior- and mid-level attorneys nationwide who excel in the legal profession and who exemplify integrity, high achievement, leadership, and a passion for diversity. The list of honorees includes those working in private practice, as in-house counsel, and as government attorneys.

As a member of the firm’s Real Estate Group and Business Transactions and Finance Group, Xiao’s practice encompasses a broad range of transactional matters, with a strong emphasis on real estate acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures and other equity capital arrangements, financings, and the development of various types of real estate.  She also assists clients with business and entity selection and formation, corporate compliance and governance, and general corporate matters.

A native of Toronto, Canada, Xiao earned her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and her undergraduate degree in sociology, with distinction in all subjects, from Cornell University. Prior to moving to Oklahoma and joining McAfee & Taft in 2021, she worked as a real estate attorney in the New York office of Debevoise & Plimpton, where much of her practice was devoted to representing large institutional clients in connection with all aspects of complex multimillion-dollar and multibillion-dollar joint venture, acquisition and sale, and financing transactions involving both domestic and foreign properties.

McAfee & Taft attorneys who previously have been named to Lawyers of Color’s annual Hot List are Maria Gonzalez (2013) and Isai Molina (2014).
