It’s one thing to know what the law requires and what actions should be taken to ensure legal compliance.  But what if you miss out on a step or two?  Can certain mistakes or failures to take action be swept under the rug, or are they likely to catch up to you in the form of a lawsuit, financial penalty, audit or formal investigation?

At EmployerLINC 2015, McAfee & Taft’s annual employment and employee benefits seminar, our attorneys will share real-life examples and case studies of how even the most common mistakes can have very costly consequences.

Hosted by the Labor and Employment Group, the morning session will feature presentations on five common employer mistakes and how they’ve played out in the courtroom:

  • Failure to properly structure severance agreements
  • Failure to understand the nuances of non-competition and non-solicitation agreements
  • Failure to understand the concept of pretext
  • Failure to adequately train front-line employees and managers and supervisors

Hosted by the Employee Benefits Group, the afternoon session will feature six presentations focusing on the latest “must-know” guidance concerning health care reform as well as company-sponsored qualified retirement, health and welfare, and executive compensation plans. Topics include:

  • Affordable Care Act: Preparing for the Cadillac tax
  • Affordable Care Act: Frequently asked questions
  • Retirement Plans: Fiduciary duties – why the industry is talking about fee leveling

There is no cost to attend this seminar, but registration is required. When registering, please be sure to specify whether you will attend the morning session, afternoon session, or both. Separate HRCI credit is available for each session.
