Firm-sponsored Program Teaches Students to Dance

published in Oklahoma City, OK | March 20, 2008

This year, the fifth grade students at Gatewood Elementary are involved in a ballroom dance program called Life Change. Twice a week, two instructors from the Life Change Ballroom program come to Gatewood and give the students a one hour ballroom dancing lesson. The students have learned steps from a variety of styles including the Fox Trot, Rumba, Cha-Cha-Cha, Swing and Salsa. The program is designed to teach students teamwork, sportsmanship, social awareness, confidence, self-esteem, goal setting, the value of hard work, manners, etiquette, trust and mutual respect. Fifth grade teachers Margaret Link and Leanna Thompson have seen a noticeable difference in the behaviors of their students.

Life Change Ballroom is not a free program. When approached about a possible contribution to help fund the program, the Firm gladly sponsored the entire Spring semester. McAfee & Taft is a longtime supporter of Gatewood Elementary. For years attorneys and staff have donated their time each week to tutor students.
