John Hermes Elected to The American Law Institute
The American Law Institute has elected John N. Hermes, a shareholder and veteran trial lawyer with the law firm of McAfee & Taft, for membership among its exclusive ranks. Elected membership is currently limited to 3,000 eminent federal and state judges, distinguished lawyers and respected law professors, and members are selected on the basis of professional achievement and demonstrated interest in the improvement of the law.
The American Law Institute was organized in 1923 as a result of a study reporting that the two chief defects in American law were its uncertainty and its complexity. ALI is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law. Through its membership, the Institute drafts, discusses, revises and publishes Restatements of Law, model statutes, and principles of law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education.
Hermes’ law practice encompasses all forms of business-related litigation, including the prosecution and defense of cases involving banking, insurance coverage, franchises, healthcare, oil and gas, products liability, real estate transactions, securities, taxes, trusts, trademarks, and other commercial controversies. In addition to being named a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, he is included in The Best Lawyers in America (Bet-the-Company Litigation and Commercial Litigation), the Chambers USA’s Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, Legal Media Group’s Guide to the Leading US Litigation Lawyers, and Oklahoma Super Lawyers.
McAfee & Taft is Oklahoma’s largest law firm, serving clients throughout the region and nationally in the areas of aviation, business law, business restructuring and bankruptcy, corporate and securities, employee benefits, entertainment law, environmental law, healthcare, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, oil and gas, real estate and tax and family wealth.
