Induction in the Chickasaw Hall of Fame, which is the highest honor bestowed upon citizens of the Nation, recognizes individuals for their selfless leadership, civic endeavors, and unparalleled accomplishments. In honoring Edwards, the Chickasaw Nation praised him, saying “By combining the vision of an entrepreneur and the strong shoulders of a stockyard hand with the humble spirit of servitude to his community and the compassionate heart of a Chickasaw, Carl has lived a life of service — a legacy of leadership in the likeness of his forefathers, a legacy to be honored.”
Born in Oklahoma City and raised in Amarillo, TX, Edwards is the grandson of Texas rancher Eddie Johnson and the great-great-grandson of famed Chickasaw cattleman Montford T. Johnson, whose life was depicted in the movie “Montford: The Chickasaw Rancher.”

“We were delighted that Carl was inducted into the Chickasaw Hall of Fame in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the Chickasaw Nation. As a direct descendent of the Chickasaw rancher Montford T. Johnson, Carl has continued a long family tradition of providing generous community service to the Chickasaw Nation, the State of Oklahoma, and the City of Oklahoma City,” said Frank Hill. “Carl has been a force in the Oklahoma City business community for many years and has accepted critical leadership positions in a variety of charitable organizations — from The United Way of Central Oklahoma and Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce to the Presbyterian Health Foundation and MAPS for Kids Trust.”
