Price Edwards & Company recently completed the renovation of the law offices of McAfee & Taft, 211 N Robinson in Leadership Square. The $4 million construction project was performed in 18 phases over 20 months with all professional staff in place during the job.

“Our substantial renovation project reflects our commitment to downtown and also our pride in what’s happening all around our city,” said McAfee & Taft managing director Richard Nix in an interview with The City Sentinel.

“With all the investments being made in Oklahoma City – MAPS, MAPS for Kids, the renovation of the Ford Center, and now the MAPS 3, the Core-to-Shore projects and the construction of the Devon Tower – this was an ideal time to be reinvesting in downtown.”

The fifty-eight year old law firm is Oklahoma’s largest, with 300 attorneys and support employees. There are 133 attorneys working in its Leadership Square headquarters and another 20 in its Tulsa office.

The biggest challenge was retrofitting offices on four levels in Leadership Square without disrupting day-to-day business operations, said Ray McNeely, vice president of Construction for property company Price Edwards & Co.

The law firm has grown quickly and needed more contemporary accommodations and the latest technological infrastructure. No significant modernization had been done since the 1980s, Nix said.

When McAfee & Taft opened in Leadership Square in 1984 it occupied the 9th and 10th  floors. Now, it takes up 100,000 square feet of space on the 8th through 12th floors, said law firm marketing director Robin Paul.

The scope of work included installation of a new interior stairwell, the addition of structural beams to support new filing systems, the installation of a new glass wall in the main reception area, new carpet, new paint, new lighting, new kitchen areas, and the upgrading of reception areas on each of the four floors in the office tower.

The law firm serve clients nationally and internationally in the areas of aviation, bankruptcy and workouts, business law, business restructuring, corporate and securities, employee benefits, entertainment, environmental law, healthcare, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, Native American law, oil and gas, real estate, and tax and family wealth.  Its website is at

The renovation team included Price Edwards & Co. as general contractor,  the Benham Cos., as architects and engineers and VanStavern Design Group, doing interior design.

Renovations began in March 2008 and concluded late this year.
