McAfee & Taft recognized as ‘Firm of the Year’

March 12, 2012

Accepting the ‘Firm of the Year’ Award at the March 8, 2012, ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia, were John Kenney, leader of the firm’s Litigation Group, and John Hermes, who was also a finalist for the ‘Oklahoma Litigator of the Year’ Award.

Benchmark Litigation recognized McAfee & Taft as the Oklahoma “Firm of the Year” for litigation during the inaugural Benchmark Litigation Awards ceremony on March 8, 2012, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.

McAfee & Taft was also a finalist in two other categories, including “Oklahoma Case of the Year” (Dollar Thrifty class action), and “Oklahoma Litigator of the Year” (John Hermes).

More than 200 litigators were in attendance for the event. Keynote speaker Ed Colbert, an intellectual property lawyer at Kenyon & Kenyon and in-house IP expert on “The Colbert Report,” along with representatives from the Atlanta legal community and regional corporations’ in-house counsel teams including UPS and Georgia-Pacific, were among the guests who joined in celebrating the achievements of southern litigators and their firms during 2011.

Awards for Case of the Year, Firm of the Year and Litigator of the Year were presented to each of 14 states. In addition to the individual regional awards, firms were recognized for work in seven practice areas as well as diversity and pro bono efforts. The award selection was based upon peer review and research conducted by Benchmark’s research team from November 2011 to January 2012.

Benchmark Litigation is the only publication to focus exclusively on the U.S. litigation market, with a research team conducting face-to-face interviews around the country with leading legal professionals, in-house counsel and business owners. It is the only guide that does not classify litigation attorneys by strict practice areas, instead pinpointing the best all around “bet-the-company” trial attorneys.

McAfee & Taft is Oklahoma’s largest law firm and has one of the largest and most experienced litigation teams in the region. In addition to Benchmark, the group also received recognition from other leading legal industry publications, including having the most lawyers of any Oklahoma firm selected by The Best Lawyers in America in the field of business litigation and the most “leaders” in the field of general business litigation of any Oklahoma firm as selected by the Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.

McAfee & Taft serves clients nationally and internationally in the areas of appellate practice, aviation, banking and finance, bankruptcy and workouts, business law, business restructuring, corporate and securities, employee benefits, energy, entertainment, environmental law, healthcare, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, Native American law, oil and gas, real estate, tax and family wealth, and white collar criminal defense and internal investigations. The firm employs nearly 350 Oklahomans, including more than 180 attorneys, in its Oklahoma City and Tulsa offices.
