McAfee & Taft to Sponsor Elvis-Themed Employment Seminar

June 6, 2006

“The KING of Employment Seminars” is the theme of this spring’s labor & employment and employee benefits seminar sponsored by McAfee & Taft, the state’s largest law firm.  The half-day seminar and legal update will be held on Thursday, June 8th, from 8am to noon at the Cox Convention Center.

The Elvis-themed seminar is geared toward human resources professionals and business owners and will feature such topics as “Always On My Mind: Practical answers to everyday HR challenges;” “Avoiding the ‘Jailhouse Rock’ and Other Penalties: What you need to know about employing immigrants and handling I-9 and employee identity issues,” “Suspicious Minds: Pre-employment background checks and on-the-job employee monitoring,” and “All Shook Up (Employees): How to effectively manage employment and benefit issues of employee wellness plans while avoiding legal pitfalls.”

Attorneys from the firm’s labor and employment, employee benefits and litigation practice groups will make presentations on seven different topics, and attendees will have their choice of attending two different breakout sessions.  In addition, Gary Cook with the Internal Revenue Service will be a featured guest speaker for a presentation entitled “T-R-O-U-B-L-E:  Retirement plan problems and how to fix them.”

The half-day program has been approved for 3.0 recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resources Certification Institute.  Although there is no cost to attend, attendees need to register in advance by calling McAfee & Taft at (405) 552-2379 or registering online at www.mcafeetaft.com.

McAfee & Taft serves clients throughout the Southwest and nationally in the areas of aviation, business law, corporate and securities, employee benefits, entertainment, environmental law, healthcare, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, oil and gas, real estate, and tax and family wealth.  The firm employs over 200 Oklahomans, including more than 115 attorneys.
