At The Podium
Medical Marijuana in Oklahoma
On June 26, 2018, Oklahomans will go to the polls to vote on whether medical marijuana should be legalized in the state. While many have speculated that Oklahoma is likely to join the ranks of the majority of U.S. states that have already legalized marijuana for medicinal uses, even more questions remain as to how this new legislation will impact Oklahoma employers.
In his presentation at the May 2018 meeting of the Tulsa Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators, labor and employment attorney Charlie Plumb reviews State Question 788, the employment protections provided in the legislation, the timing of its implementation, and what actions the Oklahoma Legislature may take if SQ788 passes. The session includes a discussion of federal law and the Department of Justice’s stance on enforcing and prosecuting federal marijuana-related offenses, a review of how other states are dealing with marijuana-related issues in the workplace, and a list of recommendations for Oklahoma employers.
