Oklahoma Employment Law Basics

The Oklahoma City Chapter of the Federal Bar Association joins the FBA’s Labor & Employment Section to bring national speakers to address important employment topics and provide local practitioners with critical information for anyone faced with employment matters.
The 3-hour CLE seminar entitled “Employment Law in a Nutshell” addresses the basics of both state and federal labor and employment law, including equal employment opportunity, U.S. Department of Labor’s new overtime rules and other Fair Labor Standards Act matters, as well as employee leave rights, timely wage payment obligations, and limitations on employee solicitations and other competition.
In his presentation titled “Oklahoma Employment Law Basics,” McAfee & Taft labor and employment attorney Josh Solberg discusses current state-specific labor and employment issues facing Oklahoma employers. His topics include:
- Employer’s obligations to avoid retaliation against employees filing workers’ compensation claims, penalties for retaliation, and remedies for the prevailing party
- Drug testing standards, when to test, and remedies available under Oklahoma’s Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act
- Oklahoma’s public policy on non-competes in employment, “blue penciling” and Howard v. Nitro-Lift
