Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Labor released new Fair Labor Standards Act regulations that are expected to extend overtime pay for more than four million workers within the first year. The rules, which go into effect December 1, 2016, could significantly impact the payroll and operations of a number of businesses in the restaurant industry.
While speaking at the Oklahoma Restaurant Association Convention and Expo, McAfee & Taft labor and employment attorneys Charlie Plumb and Paige Hoster Good review the changes to the FLSA’s white collar exemption. Topics include:
- Determining whether an employee is exempt or non-exempt
- Strategies for better managing and controlling overtime
- How to educate employees on the new overtime rules
- Why employers should review all compensation policies and practices
- The consequences on non-compliance
