Radical Changes in Overtime Law
Charles S. Plumb
The U.S. Department of Labor recently released new Fair Labor Standards Act overtime regulations that will expand the eligibility of overtime for millions of employees who were previously classified as exempt. An executive, administrative or professional employee must now earn $47,476 annually or they will be entitled to overtime pay. The law goes into effect December 1, 2016, leaving employers about six months to prepare for the new regulations.
While speaking at the Oklahoma Grocers Association’s Labor and Employment Seminar, McAfee & Taft labor and employment attorney Charlie Plumb gives an overview of the new rules and how they will potentially impact payroll and operations, assist employers in evaluating their options for dealing with the new rules, and discuss why now is a good time for every employer to review its compensation policies.
