Season of Giving
McAfee & Taft went all out this year, raising nearly $12,000 to make the holiday season merry and bright for more than 300 Oklahoma children and their families.
The firm’s Tulsa office went above and beyond years past in providing toys and other presents for 73 children in Tulsa County foster care through the Christmas Kids program sponsored by Tulsa Advocates for the Protection of Children. Lawyers and staff began their fundraising efforts in November by collecting $1,000 as part of its Annual Chili Cook-off. Within weeks, another $5,000 was generously donated, allowing the office to raise its goal from 40 kids to more than 70 kids sponsored this year! Remaining funds were used to purchase gifts for two families adopted as part of a Tulsa County Bar Association Holiday Challenge project with Children and Family Services in Tulsa. Organizers and master shoppers for the event were Pam Mappin, Anna DeShazo and Julia Wallis.
In Oklahoma City, lawyers and staff raised funds in its support of Gatewood Elementary, Positive Tomorrows, and Skyline Urban Ministry. In what has become an annual tradition, the firm delivered 176 holiday gift sacks for the students at Gatewood Elementary and also stocked the shelves of Positive Tomorrow’s Merry Market, a place where students and parents of students at Oklahoma’s City’s only school for homeless children can shop – free of charge – for holiday presents for their family members. The firm also fulfilled the wish list (and then some) of a family of six through Skyline, a local organization that works in tandem with other charitable organizations to provide free and low-cost assistance to children, families and senior citizens. Organizers of the Oklahoma City fundraising and shopping events were Donna Bennett, Sharon Selby and Judy Webb.
