T. Michael Blake Receives Prestigious Mona Lambird Service to Children Award
Oklahoma City attorney T. Michael Blake was honored by Oklahoma Lawyers for Children with its prestigious Mona Lambird Service to Children Award at the organization’s annual dinner on December 8th.
Founded in 1997, Oklahoma Lawyers for Children is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to use the time, talent and resources of qualified pro bono lawyers and other volunteers to represent and assist deprived, abused and neglected children in the Juvenile Division of the Oklahoma County District Court. The Mona Lambird Service to Children award is presented each year to recognize the exemplary representation of children by a volunteer attorney.
Blake was honored for his work representing eight children, ranging in ages from toddler to teen, in a case where the State of Oklahoma sought to terminate the mother’s parental rights based on allegations of horrific chronic abuse and neglect. After a nine-day trial, the jury determined by clear and convincing evidence that the mother’s parental rights should be terminated.
In making the presentation, Oklahoma Lawyers for Children noted that the majority of its volunteer attorneys are practicing trial lawyers. Blake, a corporate transactions and tax attorney with McAfee & Taft, was commended for not only taking on the case, but for his excellent representation of his young clients at trial.
Blake’s professional experience and expertise have earned him recognition by Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The Best Lawyers in America and Oklahoma Rising Stars. In addition to his tax practice, Blake serves as leader of the firm’s Tax and Family Wealth Practice Group.
McAfee & Taft is Oklahoma’s largest law firm, serving clients throughout the region, nationally and internationally in the areas of aviation, business law, corporate and securities, employee benefits, energy, entertainment, environmental law, healthcare, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, real estate, and tax and family wealth.
