Veteran Intellectual Property Attorney Rachel Blue Joins McAfee & Taft

February 4, 2009

McAfee & Taft, Oklahoma’s largest law firm, has expanded its intellectual property practice group with the addition of Rachel Blue. A former trademark examining attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Blue brings extensive experience and insider knowledge to her practice in intellectual property law as well as franchise law, entertainment law and unfair competition matters.  Prior to joining McAfee & Taft, she was a partner with another Oklahoma-based law firm.

As part of her practice, Blue works with a wide network of international associates and acts as U.S. counsel for lawyers and clients in Canada, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Korea on intellectual property matters.

Blue’s experience and expertise have earned her recognition in The Best Lawyers in America and Oklahoma Super Lawyers, which also named her to its list of “Top 25 Female Oklahoma Lawyers.”

Blue is a graduate of the University of Tulsa College of Law.  Immediately following law school, she went to work for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Washington D.C. where she was responsible for handling trademark applications and served on a special detail to the Assistant Commissioner for Trademarks. Upon returning to Oklahoma in 1995, she established a substantial portfolio of large institutional clients, growing businesses and individual entrepreneurs while in private practice.

Active in the legal community, Blue has twice served as president of the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Section and as a member of the OBA’s Law Schools Committee. She is also a member of the International Trademark Association, the American Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Section and the ABA’s Forum on Franchising. She is the past president of the University of Tulsa College of Law Alumni Association.

McAfee & Taft is one of the largest, most experienced law firms in the Southwest, serving clients throughout the region and nationally in the areas of aviation, business law, business restructuring and bankruptcy, corporate and securities, employee benefits, entertainment law, environmental law, healthcare, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, oil and gas, real estate and tax and family wealth.  The firm employs more than 280 Oklahomans, including over 145 attorneys, and has offices in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
